Now the company aims to give all creators equal priority when it comes to outreach as this new approach is expected to be implemented in the coming months.

Instagram introduced some new changes to its content ranking systems to give more priority to content from smaller and original creators on the social network.

The Meta-owned platform said that historically, creators with a larger follower base and post shares than other accounts have had more presence and reach on the platform.

Now the company aims to give all creators equal priority when it comes to outreach as this new approach is expected to be implemented in the coming months.

The change comes after months of criticism from creators who said their reach on the platform was negatively impacted by the algorithm.

With the new ranking, the posts of small creators will spread more, replacing reposts with original content as the main recommendation criteria.

Reposted content will be tagged and content aggregators who distribute it across their accounts will be removed from recommendations.

As people interact with the new content, a number of the most popular Reels will be shown to a wider audience, then the best of them will be shown to an even wider group and so on.

Moreover, if Instagram identifies two identical contents, priority will be given to the original or the one that was posted first. This change means that it is the original content that will take up space in the app’s recommendations and not the reposted content.

Finally, accounts or pages that repost other creators’ content will not appear in recommendations.
